Andalusian Horse UV Map Progress

Andalusian Horse UV Map Progress
Even Newer version \blelow/
Click picture to see larger version. This is posted on my flickr account KilynnTor

After way too much time trying to get the Horse UV mapped, and having to use my sister's Uber comp to do so because roadkill was too laggy on mine for unknown reason, I finally have the current mapping setup. Final mapping, tweaking, moving, scaling was done in Hexagon. This will have the left and right side as separate material zones.

I'll be doing some testing of how easy this is to do textures for on the beta grid. If anyone is interested in also testing it, you can drop a note on my avatar SilverArrow Farstrider. I'll be providing a static test 'dummy' and  UV map. I will however be uploading it on my Amethyst Gears account for now until I deem the avatar ready for at least the main grid beta stage.

Plans for this avatar include:

  • Eye Blinking and Expressions
  • Mouth/Muzzle Expressions
  • Tongue Posing - relaxed, S curve, out/down1, outdown2, out/reaching, out/right, out/left, out/up
  • Mobile Ears - separate Left and Right ears
  • Head Types - Straight, Sub-Convex, Convex, Roman, Slight Dish
  • Neck Types - Lean, Medium, Muscular
  • Body Types - Lean, Medium, Muscular
  • Leg Types - Lean, Medium, Muscular
  • Hoof Types - Normal, Long, Long Front, Long Back, Founder, Split hoof/Unicorn
  • Ear Types - Normal, Straight, Arabian1, Arabian2, Thick, Thin, Marwari1, Marwari2
  • Version without Inner Mouth Parts - Separate Inner Mouth Parts: with choices of teeth age.
  • Basic Mane and Tail
  • Mane and Tail types and styles
  • Basic Skins: Solids Black, Faded Black, Bay, Wild Bay, Seal Brown, Chestnut, Sorrel, Grey, White, Palomino, Buckskin, Perlino, Cremello, Classic Champagne, Apricot Champagne, and Gold Champagne,
  • Basic Markings: Legs and Head
  • Tobiano, Overo, Splash, Sabino, Rabicano, and other white markings.
  • Many more markings, to much to list
  • MORE BREEDS - Draft, Arabian, Pony, Minature, Thouroughbred, Quarter Horse, Gypsy Cob, Foal, 1 year olds, 2 year olds,

Many if not all I want to put in the main pack but I will most likely also sell cheaper basic packs so that people can pick and choose what traits they want. For those wondering, yes there will be a time when I release the avatar while still in progress/beta with updates free for life, which is my general policy for any of my products. I also want to Sell it in 3 step or more bonus tiers much like what you would find for a fund it project. The higher the tier, the more bonus content you get when the avatar is no longer in beta.

What would you like to see for this Avatar?

Kilynn

Young Andalusian Horse Mesh almost Final WOOT! Teeth done, working on tongue.

Currently doing a practice run at rigging and weight painting the horse avatar in Blender 2.46. So far its pretty close, I've only had to move one bone. This test run has shown me where I need to make adjustments to the topology, very minor and is a good start on the weight painting. What I need though is a way to mirror weight painting for the limbs, possibly a plug-in which I am looking for.
I have chosen currently to use 2 bones in the neck (neck, head) though I'm guessing from some comments I have seen that at least one of the current mesh horses in SL uses the skull bone for the jaw. I may consider this later if I find either the neck works fine with 1 or that having the addition mouth 'poses' hidden via being assigned to different materials in the figure become too much of a hassle or add to much to the LI (land impact) and/or rendering costs.
I know that definitely the WH (Water Horse) avatar is using the toe joint the same way I am using it though I had gotten the idea from a youtube video of a tiger avatar using it. If I had my own choice of rigging the true upper arm of the horse per limb would have a bone, the jaw would, and each of the ears, the latter so that they could be attached and not separate. I would also prefer the tail to be attached to the mesh itself and rigged with 3-4 bones but that is not currently possible in SL. It is for Cloud Party, which hopefully my figure will be in, especially if they open up withdrawals again. I've only become interested in them in the past month, it looks promising.

I have also been posting my progress on sluniverse and normally post there first as this is one of the places that has helped me on the way.Andalusian Avatar Progress thread on SLU

Still welcoming input, thoughts, queries, and curiosity. If you want to see something done for this avatar or a breed you want done, I want to know. I'll definitely be holding polls in the future to see what modifications and add ons people want for their avatars. I am also wanting to sell developer kits for those who want to make mesh whether static or rigged for the avatar. Basic texturing kits will come with the horse, as in UVs, guides, and AO maps.

I look forward from hearing from people as I develop this.

Progress on the Andalusian Horse for SL 11/05/13

Attempting to fix some hard edges that are proving really stubborn. The model seen here was final until I messed about with it a bit more the following day. I think it is almost done to my satisfaction enough I can go UV map it and rig it. From there the eyelid and mouth 'poses'.
Working on the inside of the mouth at the moment, teeth/gums/tongue.

Posting progress on SLuninerse and a horse forum has helped a lot to focus on what needs fixing.

The hooves/ankles/feet have been worked on heavily, the back half has been lowered, the hip point moved twice, work done on the chest and neck, stomach sides pulled out a bit, underside near the legs polygons lowered, back of cheek where it meets the neck defined more, ears slightly modified, front of muzzle and top of 'nose' area slightly modifiid, and upper arm attachment to the body modified heavily (will see if that helps when rigged).
I am also looking into getting this horse into Cloud Party. It would have its own skeleton rigging, including a rigged tail *YAY*!

Adalusian Horse Avatar for Second Life - WIP

Alright foals and fillies this 3D horse model (Andalusian) is anatomically correct excepting genders at the moment. This will be a fully rigged mesh avatar for Second Life.
This is almost ready for rigging. View full screen for a better look at the model.

I think the only things bothering me at the moment is the back angle of the
back hooves and the neck.
